Assistant Professor

Hadi Ali-Akbarpour, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Saint Louis University. He hold a joint appointment with the Taylor Geospatial Institute. His research spans across multiple fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Systems and Robotics, and Remote Sensing. 

Hadi Ali-Akbarpour, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Saint Louis University, and is an Associate at the Taylor Geospatial Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2012). With a passion for interdisciplinary exploration, his research interests lie at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, specifically in the context of autonomous systems, remote sensing, and robotics. Dr. Akbarpour has contributed to a range of funded projects, assuming roles as a Principal Investigator ($1.1M), co-PI ($8M), and proposal developer and task leader in SBIR tech-transfer projects ($6M) across various government and industry funded research initiatives. His publication portfolio comprises more than 70 contributions featured in high-impact conferences, journals, and books. Moreover, he holds several pending and issued U.S. patents, reflecting his dedication to innovation. His efforts has been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, particularly in categories such as best papers, presentations, and challenges. Dr. Akbarpour co-chaired the 51st IEEE Applied Imagery Pattern Recognition and was a co-organizer of the "Analysis of Aerial Motion Imagery" Special Session at the 2022 International Conference on Image Processing (IEEE-ICIP) held in France. He was a Guest Editor for the Sensors Journal in in 2021, contributing to a special edition centered around Object Tracking and Recognition.

Dr. Omar Tahri

Dr. Omar Tahri earned his PhD in computer sciences from INRIA of Rennes in 2004, followed by his habilitation (HDR). His research focuses on modeling robot/environment interaction, particularly utilizing visual information for visual servoing and active vision. His expertise is further enriched by his prior engagements with esteemed French institutions such as INRIA, the Atomic Energy Commission, and the Institut Pascal Clermont-Ferrand, as well as international experience as a researcher at the Institute of Systems and Robotics of Coimbra, Portugal-one of the leading institutes in the field of robotics. 

Dr. Chandrakanth Vipparla

Dr Chandra obtained his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (‘22). Throughout his tenure, he has worked in multiple areas including Signal Processing, Adaptive Signal Processing, Radar Signal and Data Processing, Image Processing, Compressed Sensing and Machine Learning. He joined Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI) , Saint Louis University as Post Doctoral Fellow on 21st Feb 2024. He is jointly working with University of Missouri Columbia and Saint Louis University, St Louis in 2D /3D Vis - Thermal Image fusion, 3D reconstruction and Aerial imagery analysis using Deep Learning.
